The City of Boston will begin inspecting all large city-contracted vehicles to ensure that they comply with safety ordinances meant to protect cyclists, Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s office announced Thursday.
The Inspectional Services Department will check that vehicles have convex blind spot mirrors, crossover mirrors, and blind-spot awareness decals, as mandated by the Truck Side Guard Ordinance.
“I am thrilled the city has begun side-guard inspections on vehicles,” Councilor at Large Ayanna Pressley said in the statement. “These safety fixtures are a proven way to minimize cyclist fatalities.
