Thank you. On Tuesday, thanks to your generous and active support, we made history. Again.
We turned vulnerability into victory and topped the ticket with more than 37,000 votes. It was an extraordinary accomplishment and the credit belongs to you. We did what most pundits and prognosticators thought impossible and ran a true citywide Get Out The Vote operation that boosted turnout in key areas and ensured our voice was heard.
On Election Day, a diverse and dynamic army of volunteers worked right up until the polls closed. We sent out more than 200 two-person canvas teams to knock doors in neighborhoods across the city, including Charlestown, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Roxbury and West Roxbury. More than 300 people greeted voters at their polling location. Volunteers made 30,000 calls to identified and likely supporters and we made sure to have Chinese, Haitian Creole and Spanish speakers on the phones so we could reach every voter. We raised enough money so we were able to place commercials on broadcast TV, buy spots on local radio and pay for critical robocalls to remind people to vote.
How amazing were our volunteers? At 7:30 PM, two volunteers were knocking doors in Mattapan. An older woman wanted to vote but needed a ride to the polls. The volunteers drove her to her polling location only to discover she was actually registered to vote at a different location. They jumped back in the car, hightailed it to the other location where the volunteers ensured the woman wasn't denied her right to vote. She was in line before the polls closed and cast her ballot at 8:10 PM. I feel truly blessed to have so many committed, tireless and passionate people beside me.
On Election Night, I was able to thank everyone who came to Dorchester Avenue to celebrate. But you deserve to hear what I said too since you're a part of our shared victory. Please click here to watch my Election Night speech- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mm08F3c91I&feature=player_embedded
Thank you and God bless.
All the Best,
Ayanna Pressley.
