Ayanna considers everyday a love letter in activism to her mother, her shero, Sandra Pressley. Sandy was a fierce advocate in their community. Through her unwavering faith in God, her tireless, resourceful, and fierce example, she taught Ayanna everything she knows about activism.
Pressly's desire to seek change, using government and elected office as the tool, has been directly informed by her mother’s participation as an active voter, and as an informed, vocal and civically engaged woman. Even now, four years after her passing, it’s her voice that still drives and guides her.
"My mother informed me that the way to be a change agent to create change, the first line of defense, or however you want to phrase that, is politics and government."
"Sandra was an amazing gift who came into our lives through the daughter she loved with all her heart... a woman of immense faith, and sometimes I think she spent more time praying for me than I'd prayed for anything."
-U.S. Secretary of State John F. Kerry
